“Memoir is not autobiography or a simple telling of your story, but rather a grappling on the page with the meaning of it – a looking back and coming to a kind of understanding of its implications. Memoir can be as short as one page, or as long as a novel. Memoir can be a poem or an essay, but the story must be compelling because it matters beyond the mere telling of it.”  Joy Gaines Friedler

Joy Gaines Friedler, an award-winning writer and instructor, and author of two poetry books, will guide JHSM members interested in learning the craft of writing memoir. Over the course of a three-week session, participants will complete writing exercises that cover different aspects of the craft, and look at and discuss inspiring writing. This program supports JHSM’s mission to share, preserve and celebrate Michigan’s Jewish history.

To ensure that our guests receive personalized attention, we are limiting class size to 15 individuals.  Register now so you don’t miss out.
